Kazakhstan and Türkiye are strengthening
collaboration in quarantine and plant protection. The Senate, the upper house
of the Kazakh Parliament, has approved a law ratifying an agreement between the
two governments. The document establishes requirements for imported goods, their
certification, and the transit of goods between the two countries. Under the
agreement, Kazakhstan and Türkiye will share information on the phytosanitary
situation, the detection and spread of quarantine pests, and methods of pest
control. Research institutes and plant protection organizations will also
engage in cooperation and knowledge exchange. According to the Ministry of
Agriculture, Kazakhstan supplies Türkiye with grain and legumes, while Türkiye
exports vegetables, fruits, and nuts to Kazakhstan. Over the past three years,
Kazakhstan has exported 700,000 tons of plant products, while importing around
40,000 tons of agricultural crops and more than 2.5 million seeds from Türkiye.
«The turnover for the year was about $285
million. Of course, we intend to further increase the volumes, and in this
direction the work of the phytosanitary service is very important to ensure the
country’s phytosanitary food safety. Kazakhstan’s plant product exports amount
to nearly $133 million, with imports at a similar level. Today we have such
agreements with Iran, Azerbaijan, China, Vietnam and we will continue to expand
in this direction,» said Kazakh Vice Minister of Agriculture Yermek
Kenzhekhanuly.
