Innovative ideas by schoolgirls from Oral! Students of Nazarbayev Intellectual School offered to produce eco-friendly bio-napkins and office paper. The idea of young innovators received positive feedback at the international competition of scientific projects in Turkey. Adiya and Asima used various reagents to create the first paper samples. They are now working on further improvement of the innovative project. Eco-friendly paper from horse manure can even be produced on a commercial scale. This will allow not only to save the forests, but also to develop recycling industries.
“Last summer, I went to the nearest farm with my family and I noticed that animal waste was just being thrown away. In addition, disappearing forests are reported on television every day. So I asked my teacher what we could do to benefit society. If we can make paper, for example,” shared Adiya Agedilova.
“I think there’s a future to this development. The raw material contains cellulose. There's a wood base. This method can be automated. Of course, we need to do more research to maximize the quality of the paper, to make it thinner. There’s a lot of waste in agriculture today, but most importantly, there are opportunities to use it effectively,” said Assel Sakhiyeva, Project Advisor.
