President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid a
working visit to Shymkent, Kazakhstan’s third-largest city, where he inspected
the new airport terminal. The creation of an aviation hub in southern
Kazakhstan is expected to increase the number of regional flight routes from 17
to 59, including new connections to Europe and Asia. Tokayev also visited the
modern Almaar Logistics trade and logistics center, located near the Western
Europe–Western China transport corridor. The 24,000-square-meter
multifunctional warehouse complex features advanced storage technologies. In
addition, the President attended an agricultural exhibition. Currently, around
50 processing enterprises are successfully operating in the city, producing
goods worth 168.5 billion tenge in 2024. The Head of State also reviewed
greenhouse development projects presented by Turkish and Polish companies.
During the trip, the President also visited
the new Coca-Cola plant, where he toured the production process and highlighted
the importance of supporting investment projects that drive regional economic
growth.
Tokayev continued his visit by planting a
tree in a park near the Shymkent City residential district. Over one million
trees will be planted in the metropolis in the coming years. The President was
also briefed on a waste-to-energy plant project by a Chinese investor. The
enterprise can process up to 1,000 tonnes of household waste per day and generate
electricity.
Tokayev explored the city’s congress hall,
designed for cultural events, which includes a crafts center and workshops. He
was also introduced to Shymkent’s digital solutions. Among the innovations
presented were an intelligent traffic light control system based on a domestic
development and the Avtobys digital platform. Now Shymkent integrates the
rollout of an outdoor video surveillance system and high-speed Internet to
ensure uninterrupted monitoring of traffic and public order.
The President reviewed a long-term urban
development plan for the metropolis. It includes projects for the construction
of a new central stadium, a perinatal center, and other social facilities. By
2035, Shymkent aims to increase the share of multi-apartment housing to 60%. The
Head of State was also shown an apartment in the Akzhaiyk residential district,
where 35 apartment complexes are set to be built by the end of the year.
