Kazakh President orders strengthening of agro-industrial complex potential

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for strengthening the potential of Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial complex by continuing the transition to the cultivation of more profitable crops, increasing deep processing of raw materials, and supporting exports. The sector took a leading position among all industries last year, driven by a significant rise in preferential lending for spring sowing. This year, at least 700 billion tenge should be allocated for these efforts, Tokayev emphasized. Additionally, affordable loans should be made available to livestock breeders and agricultural product processors. The President recalled the previously set task to shift from inefficient subsidies to a more effective model of preferential lending. His instructions were supported by the country’s farmers.¤¤

«I believe the development of the agro-industrial complex will positively impact the economic situation of our country. Moreover, the transition from subsidies to lending, I think, will also contribute to the sector’s growth,» said Ivan Veselovsky, research fellow at the Research Institute of Agroinnovation and Biotechnology.
