On the sidelines of the
Kazakhstan-Singapore business forum, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held
meetings with representatives of Singapore’s business community. The Head of State
invited Temasek, one of Singapore’s largest investment companies, to
participate in joint projects. The company CEO Dilhan Pillay appreciated the
prospects for cooperation with Kazakhstan in the fields of transport and
logistics. The parties also discussed the creation of a joint investment fund
and collaboration in the spheres of digitalization, e-commerce, and renewable
energy. President Tokayev also met with Amit Lohia, the Vice Chairman of
Indorama Corporation, the largest producer of petrochemical products, who expressed
the company’s interest in establishing a full production cycle of phosphate
fertilizers in the Zhambyl region. Last year, Asia’s leading chemicals company
registered a subsidiary in the jurisdiction of the Astana International Financial
Centre (AIFC) to develop Kazakhstan’s chemical industry by exploring new
deposits.
“The company’s management
informed the President that they are willing to consider a proposal to build a
plant for the production of phosphate fertilizers. We will thoroughly explore
this matter. I believe the project has good potential,” commented AIFC Governor
Renat Bekturov.
The SOVICO Group expressed
interest in managing several airports and investing in logistics warehouses in
Kazakhstan. On the sidelines of the business forum, key aspects of implementing
the Alatau City flagship project in the Almaty region were also discussed. The
concept of the master plan for the development of G4 City was developed jointly
by local authorities, Caspian Group, and Surbana Jurong company.
“A new city called ‘Alatau’ has
been presented, and we discussed the progress made. A concept was developed,
and the city was mapped out. Also, the master plan was approved last week. This
has sparked additional interest from foreign investors,” said Marat
Sultangaziyev, governor of the Almaty region.
