Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev met with the heads of government of Russia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan in
Astana today, thanking them for their support of the Innoprom Kazakhstan international
industrial trade fair, which has become a testament to the close trade and
economic cooperation between the states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). President
Tokayev highlighted the rise in foreign trade with the increasing number of
joint ventures and major projects in industry, energy, machinery, agriculture,
and other sectors of the economy. In the first half of the year, the growth in trade
turnover totaled $13 billion. Tokayev emphasized that the EAEU states have the
vast potential for further cooperation.
“As for Kazakhstan, we are
absolutely committed to advance integration within the EAEU. We think that it
is a very promising integration organization, with great opportunities liyng
precisely in its economic potential. Kazakhstan believes that all EAEU member
states must strictly adhere to the Treaty, which was signed here in 2015, and
deal specifically with the issues of economic integration, trade development,
and market expansion for mutual exchange of goods,” he noted.
The Head of State believes that
the effectiveness of trade and economic cooperation is closely linked to
unlocking transport potential. To this end, it is necessary to consistently
develop the capabilities of the North-South corridor with access to Iran, the
Persian Gulf and India, the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, and the
Western Europe-Western China route. He also paid special attention to the
Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
