Direct elections of rural mayors will take place in Kazakhstan on July 25 for the first time. The country’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev urged Kazakh citizens to actively participate in the voting. “This event marks a new stage in political modernization. All the necessary transformations in the interest of people should be fulfilled,” the head of state wrote on his Twitter account.
The President noted the need for direct elections of rural mayors during his state-of-the-nation address on September 1, 2020. The voting will take place in 730 constituencies in 176 districts of 14 regions of the country.
