A meeting of the Security Council of Kazakhstan was
held under the chairmanship of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Members of the
government reported on the state of the space sector and ongoing projects. The
Head of State emphasized the strategic importance of the sector, placing
particular focus on ensuring the resilience of satellite communications and
space infrastructure. President Tokayev noted that the global space industry is
undergoing fundamental changes. The era when space activities were the domain
of a “closed circle” of major powers is over. Today, private companies are
increasingly taking the lead in developing applied areas, including
communications, broadcasting, navigation, space monitoring, and internet
connectivity. Discussions also covered the development of space science and
support for research. Tokayev further highlighted the prospects for
international cooperation in the sector. Following the meeting, the government
was given a number of specific instructions aimed at modernizing the space
industry.
