During an official visit to
China, a delegation from the Kazakh Mazhilis, a lower house of the Kazakh
Parliament, headed by Chairman Yerlan Koshanov, met with Chairman of the
Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji, Chairman of the
National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Wang
Huning, and Vice President of China Han Zheng. The parties discussed inter-parliamentary
dialogue, economic, and cultural cooperation, as well as plans to open cultural
centers of Kazakhstan and China in their capitals. Mazhilis members expressed
particular interest in their Chinese counterparts’ experience in artificial intelligence
and emergency response. Overall, the countries are now implementing several key
projects in the automotive industry and logistics. Prospective areas of
cooperation include alternative energy, cross-border e-commerce, and satellite
telecommunications. Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China has reached a
record high of $41 billion, and Koshanov highlighted the potential for a
significant increase in bilateral trade in the medium term.
