Kazakh Health Ministry considers shortening required quarantine period

From 14 to 10 days - Kazakhstan plans to reduce the quarantine period for coronavirus patients starting January 24. Experts are currently reviewing the draft decree of the chief sanitary doctor with the corresponding amendments. It is expected that, in the first instance, the isolation period will be reduced for close contacts who have been vaccinated or boostered. A PCR test with a negative result will also shorten the duration of the quarantine. It will be possible to undergo it already on the seventh day of the isolation.

“The same rule applies to asymptomatic individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. That is, they will also have to spend 10 days in quarantine. However, they can undergo another PCR testing on Day 7. If they get a negative result, they will be allowed to end the quarantine and return to work. Otherwise, if they don’t undergo the test again, they will have to quarantine all 10 days,” Aizhan Yesmagambetova, Chairperson of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Committee of the Kazakh Health Ministry, said.
