Kazakh residents affected by the
floods are expected to receive one-time payments by the end of the week, as
instructed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov at a meeting on damage compensation.
As of today, over 3,500 families have been paid compensation equivalent to 100 monthly
calculation index (MCI), totaling about one billion tenge. Regarding housing restoration,
of the 9,000 residential buildings affected, technical assessments have been
completed for more than 2,000 structures, revealing that half of them are
beyond repair. Local authorities offer either new or ready-made housing, based
on individual preferences. Bektenov stressed that these figures are
preliminary, and the extent of damage may escalate given the ongoing challenges
in flood-affected regions. Local authorities were directed to urgently identify
new land plots with connected infrastructure and located as far as possible
from potential flood zones.
