Minister Alikhan Smailov held a meeting with ExxonMobil Upstream’s Senior Vice
President John Whelan. The parties discussed the plans for further development
of the Tengiz and Kashagan fields, the implementation of expansion projects,
the supply of liquefied petroleum gas to the domestic market, and the
construction of a gas separation complex. It is worth noting that to date, the
U.S. company’s investments in Kazakhstan’s economy have exceeded $28 billion.
In addition to the mentioned fields, ExxonMobil is the country’s partner in the
Caspian Pipeline Consortium project. The company expressed its readiness to
further strengthen bilateral ties and strategic partnership. On his part,
Smailov emphasized that the Kazakh Government is always open to constructive
dialogue with the company within the implementation of joint plans. He
highlighted that the increase of local content in major oil and gas projects is
one of the key factors for the development of basic sectors of the economy.
