The throughput capacity of the
International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) may increase more than
threefold, from six to 20 million tonnes of cargo. To this end, corresponding
work is being carried out in stages. The development of transborder hubs in
Kazakhstan was discussed at a government meeting of the operational working group.
As noted by representatives of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy railway company, an
analysis of the efficiency of cross-border checkpoints has been conducted, and
measures have been developed to improve them. Also, work has commenced on the
Caspian Sea to implement a project for the construction of a container hub,
which is planned to be established on the Seaport Aktau special economic zone. The
main project in the network of transborder hubs in Kazakhstan is the Khorgos
Hub in the Zhetisu region. According to the regional governor’s office, there
are currently 48 registered participants and 15 operating enterprises within
the special economic zone. Six more projects are planned to be launched by the
year-end. The total revenue of the Khorgos International Center for
Cross-Border Cooperation amounts to 1.5 billion tenge, with 8,000 tonnes of
cargo transported from April to November this year. To date, the total amount
of investment has reached 141 billion tenge. Besides, efforts are underway to
establish the Eurasia Cross-Border Trade Center, the Alatau Industrial Trade
and Logistics Complex and the Central Asia International Center for
Cross-Border Cooperation.
