This year, a separate service is set to be
established under the Kazakh Ministry of Transport aimed at investigating and
implementing measures to prevent air accidents. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov announced
the need for its creation during a government meeting highlighting several
important issues that should be addressed. Firstly, to double cargo
transportation by 2028, efforts must be accelerated to create a national air freight
carrier that can establish a strong presence in the international market. Among
other tasks are expanding and renewing the aircraft fleet, developing support
measures for airlines, particularly small carriers, as well as advancing
digitalization and implementing artificial intelligence in the industry.
«At the expanded government meeting, President
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev placed special emphasis on the development of the
aviation industry and the creation of international air hubs in Kazakhstan. To
achieve this, we are making a decision to open special economic zones at six of
the country’s largest airports. These hubs are expected to become competitive
on the international stage. Therefore, the primary focus will be on developing
infrastructure and conditions for cargo carriers. The next stage involves
enhancing the multimodal capabilities of these airports in line with
international standards, ensuring the transportation of goods using various
modes of transport,» Bektenov noted.
The aviation industry is an important factor in
the development of tourism. According to the relevant ministry, its indicators
have doubled over the past five years. Last year alone, domestic airlines
carried nearly 15 million passengers, and the number of passengers served at
the country’s airports was twice as high. In addition, through private
investments totaling $350 billion, three terminals - in Almaty, Shymkent, and
Kyzylorda - were modernized, increasing their capacity by 6.5 times. The
construction of three airports in the resort areas of Kendirli, Zaisan, and Katon-Karagai
is expected to be completed this year. Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Talgat
Lastayev spoke about these and other plans until 2030.
«Passenger traffic will increase from 14.7
million to 26 million passengers. The volume of cargo handled will grow from
170,000 tonnes to 500,000 tonnes. The aircraft fleet will expand from 104 to
221 units. The number of international destinations will rise from 119 to 200
routes. The Ministry will carry out all assigned tasks efficiently and in a
timely manner. This work will be under constant control,» Lastayev said.
