The Kazakh film «Joqtau» has been
selected for the competition program of the 77th Locarno International Film Festival
in Switzerland. Aruan Anartay’s debut feature will be showcased as part of one
of the key sections, the young directors’ competition highlighting emerging talents
in cinema. According to its creators, the road movie tells about remote places
in Kazakhstan, capturing a journey across the steppe. Each competition entry will
be screened up to five times across ten venues at the event scheduled from
August 7 to 17. Plans include organizing a national premiere and a theatrical
release in Kazakhstan.
