Kazakhstan is attracting great
interest from international filmmakers, with stories with a local touch being particularly
appealing to foreign industry professionals. Thus, an American studio is
planning to collaborate with domestic directors to produce a film centered
around a horsewoman. Filming is scheduled to commence in Kazakhstan and the
U.S. next year. Additionally, partnerships are slated to be built with film
companies in Uzbekistan and Belarus. Thus, Kazakhstan and Belarus will create a
film for the anniversary of victory in World War II. It should be noted that
Kazakh cinema is currently capturing attention beyond Europe, thanks to the
success of domestic films at international film festivals.
“We have established a good
friendship and cooperation with two leading filmmakers from Senegal and
Morocco. One of them is Moussa Toure, a renowned Senegalese filmmaker and
participant of the Cannes Film Festival, who wishes to make a movie in
cooperation with Kazakhstan. The second filmmaker is Abdelilah El Jaouhari from
Morocco, who chairs the Moroccan Association of Cinema Critics. He has also
expressed interest in collaborating with Kazakhstan and engaging in
co-production. We look forward to seeing these projects implemented jointly
with Kazakhstan in the near future,” said Andre Ivanov, President of the French
Association of Kazakh Cinema.
It is worth noting that
Kazakhstan has implemented joint projects with China as well, including the
2019 release of the film ‘The Composer’. In 2020, the drama ‘The Horse Thieves.
Roads of Time’ was co-produced with Japan. This year, a romantic comedy created
by a Kazakh-Georgian team was released, along with a joint film with Russia,
the comedy-drama ‘Summer Ends Soon.’
