Kazakh citizens to receive SMS notifications on expiry of documents

Kazakh citizens will be notified in advance of the expiration of their documents via SMS. The upcoming expiration date of an ID card, driver’s license or passport will be given 30 days notice. The new service was introduced from April 1. It is designed to reduce the number of administrative offenses.

The Interior Ministry explains that, according to the current regulations, if a document is less than a month overdue, the holder will get off with only a warning. If the delay is more than a month, the violator faces a fine in the amount of seven  monthly calculation indices, which is just over 20,000 tenge. (US$44)

Kazakh citizens wishing to receive such notifications will be required to indicate their mobile phone number in their personal account on the eGov.kz portal.
