Kazakh athlete Alexander Gerlits finished fifth in the cross-country skiing standing sprint at the Winter Paralympics in Beijing. He clocked 3:13, falling 5.5 seconds behind the winner Benjamin Daviet from France. Grygorii Vovchynskyi from Ukraine came third. Earlier, Gerlits won the first medal for Team Kazakhstan at the now-running Paralympic Games. He nailed bronze in the men’s standing 10-kilometer biathlon event.
