Kazakh artist creates shadow pictures using cardboard

Kazakh artist Rauazh Zharylkassynov is creating shadow portraits using cardboard, the right lighting, and, of course, imagination. His initial idea transforms a simple heap of materials into images of famous personalities reflected on the wall. The young master shares his works made in this technique on social media, captivating the audience with unique forms and an unusual approach.

“My cardboard creations spark interest among people. They are particularly impressed by these works,” said Zharylkassynov.

The light-and-shadow installations are not the only artistic direction for Rauazh. He is also adept with other materials, using them to create sculptures. The young artist also enjoys working with traditional techniques, such as oil paints and brushes.

“I have been drawing since I was seven or eight years old. Back then, there were no mobile phones, internet, or popular social networks like TikTok and Instagram, only television. We used to watch various cartoons and movies on TV, and I drew inspiration from them. After that I would write down the ideas I had on paper,” added Zharylkassynov.

Today, Zharylkassynov’s social media account has more than one million followers who truly admire his work. The artist’s new goal is to hold a solo exhibition.
