Kazakh artisans take part in International Gold Embroidery and Jewelry Festival

The International Gold Embroidery and Jewelry Festival took place in Bukhara. The event was attended by visitors from 40 countries. Craftspeople from Kazakhstan, who promote national traditions, also presented their works. A needlewoman Aizhan Abdubait displayed a coverlet made of gold thread for the tomb of Khoja Ahmad Yasawi in Turkistan. In six months, she knitted only a third of the work.

“I devoted 30 years of my life to the study and revival of our national art and its popularization. If we look at our history, we will see that this is an original art that was forgotten. We need to make it relevant to the current time and pass on this knowledge to the younger generation. This is a hard work,” Abdubait said.

Kazakh craftsman Ikram Mukhamedzhan displayed his silver jewelry at the festival as well. The jeweler applies the secrets of making antique jewelry in his works.

“Each ornament has its own meaning. Let’s take a look at the koshkarmuiiz pattern. The image of ram’s horns brings prosperity, wealth and abundance. That’s what our ancestors said. There are rings, which can be worn only by young women and only by older women. They differ in design, pattern and other features from each other. One of my works is a ring named Shanyrak made for a mother of the daughter-in-law or son-in-law,” Mukhamedzhan noted.
