Strengthening regional security remains the SCO’s priority area at the current stage, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated at the Summit held in Samarkand. The Head of State proposed to build up military-political cooperation between the defense departments and special services of the parties. He also raised the issues of energy and food security. President Tokayev highlighted the need to boost agricultural trade expansion in the SCO space and beyond. He said that the country supports the development of economic cooperation of the Organization. Overall, the member states have all the prerequisites to transform the SCO into a global economic platform, the Head of State added.
“In my view, the SCO is the most successful international organization in the modern world. At present, our organization brings together dynamically developing economies with enormous human, resource and technological potential. The SCO member states account for about a quarter of the global GDP, or over US$23 trillion. We are rich in energy resources, coal, rare metals and renewable energy sources,” Tokayev said.
