Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlines priorities of Kazakhstan-U.S. partnership at business meeting

At a meeting with American business leaders, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the U.S. The Head of State described the U.S. as an important strategic partner, reaffirming his commitment to advancing multifaceted cooperation. The two countries share many points of convergence, as evidenced by contacts at the highest level.

«Today, once again I had a conversation and talk with President Trump and I appreciate it very much. Kazakhstan commends the leadership of President Trump in advancing pragmatic diplomacy and promoting the peaceful resolution of acute conflicts from Europe, the Middle East to Asia and Africa. His mindset and emphasis on tangible results have really contributed to deescalating tensions and fostering dialogue amid growing global polarization Tokayev noted.

Over the past years, the U.S. has invested more than $100 billion in Kazakhstan’s economy. Today, more than 630 American companies are operating in the country. However, the region itself should also be of interest to investors. Kazakhstan stands ready to contribute to the expansion of American business presence in Central Asia. According to the Head of State, continued cooperation within the C5+ and B5+ formats could give a new impetus to these efforts. Business cooperation with Kazakhstan can develop across priority areas, the first of which is, of course, the energy sector, including the development of oil fields, geological exploration, as well as the extraction and processing of uranium.

«Possessing one of the world’s largest coal reserves, we share the United States’ approach of regarding coal as a proven and secure source of energy, at least for the foreseeable future. Our energy strategy is based on four pillars: oil and gas, coal, uranium and critical mineralsTokayev added.

Another priority is critical raw materials. In the mining industry, transparent conditions have been created thanks to legislation. The Head of State also emphasized the vast opportunities in transport and logistics, the agro-industrial sector, and digital cooperation. He further identified the development of human capital as a key priority. To date, 33 branches of foreign universities have been opened in Kazakhstan, including the University of Arizona, Duke University, and the Universities of Pennsylvania and Minnesota. President Tokayev proposed expanding joint projects with U.S. universities and research centers.
