In Omsk, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks
with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the meeting, the Kazakh leader
outlined his position on resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He
proposed freezing the conflict and returning to the Istanbul Formula 2.0.
«This is
simply my humble opinion, since I have been asked for it. Perhaps it is time to
freeze this conflict and return to the Istanbul Formula 2.0, as significant
progress was made there. Then, naturally, under guarantees from the major
powers, including Russia, it would be possible to move toward the long-awaited
peace. No one knows exactly how to resolve this situation because each side has
its own position. Yet there is an opportunity to freeze the conflict. This is a
well-established mechanism in international practice. It is heartbreaking that
young people are losing their lives,» Tokayev said.
President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to
its strategic partnership and alliance with Russia, emphasizing that the XXII
Kazakhstan-Russia Interregional Cooperation Forum provides a valuable
opportunity to continue substantive dialogue on the key areas of bilateral
cooperation and outline further steps for its development.
