Today, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the service
members of the national peacekeeping contingent. The Head of State emphasized
that Kazakh peacekeepers have successfully carried out the important mission
entrusted to the country at a high level and strengthened the authority of both
the armed forces and the state, while demonstrating their courage. Kazakhstan’s
armed forces have taken part in UN peacekeeping operations since 2014. Eighty
Kazakh nationals served as military observers in several missions, while around
700 others were involved in special operations of the international organization.
Currently, 158 Kazakh service members are serving as part of peacekeeping
forces in Africa and the Middle East. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief also highlighted
the training of military personnel. In a short period of time, significant work
was done to train the soldiers and equip them in accordance with international
standards.
«This is a clear indicator of readiness, demonstrating that
the Kazakh army is capable of carrying out the most complex tasks. At a crucial
moment in the conflict in Syria, you acted pragmatically and decisively,
thereby confirming the high level of professionalism of the Kazakh armed forces.
The entire international community witnessed the unwavering spirit and courage of
the Kazakh soldier. You served in hotspots, displayed exceptional bravery, and
gained valuable experience. It is now essential that you pass on your knowledge
to other service members,» Tokayev said.
The operation on the Golan Heights became the first
independent peacekeeping mission under Kazakhstan’s flag. The Head of State
noted that this milestone elevated the country’s cooperation with the UN to a
new level. Kazakhstan plans to participate in other missions of the
Organization and will continue contributing to strengthening peace and harmony.
President Tokayev presented state awards to the servicemembers for their
exemplary fulfillment of military duty, courage, and dedication demonstrated
during the UN peacekeeping mission on the Golan Heights.
