The international film
festival of Turkic countries, «Gorkut Ata», was held in Ashgabat. It showcased feature
films, as well as documentaries and short films, from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz
Republic, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye and other countries. Residents and
guests of the Turkmen capital had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the
world of cinema, with screenings of the festival's competition entries held in
all the city's movie theaters.
«This festival is
different from others, as it brings together kindred nations to showcase their
cinematic artistry, united by a shared spirit and mindset. It is very important
for us that the world learns about Turkic cinema and that our films gain global
recognition. Therefore, this festival is, first and foremost, a unique platform
for the development of Turkic cinema,» noted
Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev.
As part of the
festival, foreign guests visited the ancient Turkmen city of Anau, which became
the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024.
«We are presenting the
film «Uly Dala Tany» (Dawn of the Great Steppe) at this festival. This is the
story of our people, the history of the reign of Kassym Khan. This is my first
time in Ashgabat, and it is a great honor for me to represent my country. We
really hope that this festival will build bridges, and we will collaborate
again,» said actress Altynai Nogerbek.
Notably, the festival
symbol, the «Crane» statuette, has been passed on to Kazakhstan. This means
that the next cultural event will take place in the country.
