The Turkistan region is in the process of launching a new hydroelectric power plant. The total project cost amounts to 700 million tenge. The plant will generate 1.5 megawatts of electricity per hour. Water supply is carried out under high pressure through a specially laid pipe from the Keles River.
“A mini hydroelectric power plant will be launched in a few days. Of course, it will not be able to provide electricity to all of Kazakhstan. But we intend to supply electricity to nearby villages and districts,” said project manager Bakbergen Kalybekov.
It bears noting that a special plan for the development of renewable energy sources was developed in the region. Over the past seven years, the Turkistan region has implemented over 20 similar projects with a total capacity of 220 megawatts. As a result, last year alone the total electricity generation from renewable sources amounted to 357 million kilowatt hours. This year it is planned to generate over 400 million kWh of electricity. The work on attracting investments to implement other major projects is currently underway in the region.
“Taking into account all our projects, we plan to attract investments worth about five billion tenge. For example, five facilities were launched on the existing industrial zone of 24 hectares. We have another 20 hectares of land, which are not used. Thus, we are in search of new investors,” Beket Usserbayev, Deputy Head of Kazygurt district’s entrepreneurship department, said.
