Kazakhstan and Türkiye will be
able to significantly boost their mutual trade volumes and strengthen
transit-transport potential. Today, the Senate, an Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament,
approved the ratification of an Agreement between the governments of the two
countries on international combined cargo transportation. The document aims to
streamline processes using various transportation modes, including road, rail,
and waterways. Joint actions and conditions have also been outlined. For
example, the parties will provide corresponding connections and transit
services on railway lines connecting the countries, particularly for
international container block trains. At present, the primary transportation
between the two countries is conducted via the Caspian Sea.
“The number of companies engaged
in freight transportation will also increase. The potential of the
Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is immense. Consequently, efforts
will continue to transport goods through the Aktau and Kuryk seaports, as well
as to ship goods through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. A joint committee
will be established to regulate all matters related to the implementation of
the agreement,” said Senate member Alibek Nautiyev.
It is worth noting that Türkiye
is one of the important trade, economic and investment partners of Kazakhstan.
The parties aim to increase mutual trade turnover to $10 billion in the future,
up from the current $6 billion. Of this total, two-thirds is attributed to Kazakhstan’s
exports. Additionally, direct Turkish investments in the country amount to
approximately $5 billion.
