The recently found archaeological complex, dedicated to the founder of the second Turkic Khaganate Kutlug Kagan, and the inscriptions in his honor were presented in Turkey. The artifacts were discovered in Mongolia’s Nomgon valley. Scientists say that it is an important find in the study of the history of the Turkic states.
“It would not be an exaggeration to say that this is the largest historical and archaeological discovery known in the history of the Turkic-speaking states and nations and found since the time of Thomsen over the past 130 years. This is the oldest monument where the word "Turk" was mentioned for the first time. Earlier such data could be found only in the works by Bilge Qaghan and Kultegin,” Fuzuli Majidli, acting president of the International Turkic Academy, said.
“I would like to say that this is our common heritage. Our main task now is to include this information in the textbooks of history and Turkic studies,” said President of Caucasus University Association Ramazan Korkmaz.
It bears noting that research work in Mongolia has been carried out since 2016. In the future, it is planned to turn the Kutlug Kagan complex into an open-air museum and give it a special status.
