Chairperson Maulen Ashimbayev called the day of voting on the construction of a
nuclear power plant historic for Kazakhstan. He cast his vote at the polling
station and emphasized the importance of each citizen's participation in the
referendum, highlighting that this is a constitutional right of every Kazakh
citizen. According to Ashimbayev, the referendum plays an important role in the
formation of a new legal culture. Mazhilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov also cast
his vote, noting that a decision regarding the future of the country is being
made today, and most importantly, it is being made by the people. Kazakh State
Counsellor Erlan Karin also cast his ballot, emphasizing that Kazakhstan is the
first country in the CIS and Central Asia to hold a referendum on such an
issue. The very fact of holding a referendum shows the expansion of dialogue
between citizens, society, and the state. The Head of the Presidential
Administration Aibek Dadebay exercised his voting right at the nationwide
referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant at the polling station
located in the Presidential Center. The country’s Prime Minister Olzhas
Bektenov also cast his ballot at the Palace of Schoolchildren in Astana.
