Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a telegram of
condolences to the families and loved ones of the miners who lost their lives
in the Ulytau region. He instructed the government to thoroughly investigate
the causes of the tragedy. Relevant agencies and the regional administration
have been tasked with providing all necessary assistance to the miners’
families. The incident occurred yesterday at the Zhomart mine of the Kazakhmys
Corporation. Seven people were trapped under the rubble due to a rock collapse;
all of them lost their lives. A special commission has been formed following
the Prime Minister’s instructions and is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat
Bozumbayev. The commission members inspected the site and reviewed the progress
of the investigation. Emergency services, an investigative task force from the
Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Industrial Safety Committee, as well as
representatives of other agencies, are currently working on site.
