A French investor will build a
1-gigawatt wind power plant in the Zhambyl region. Today, the members of the
Mazhilis, a Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament, ratified the Special
Agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and France on cooperation in
the fight against global warming. The document aimed at promoting and
implementing large-scale renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan was signed in
Paris a year ago. Thus, there are plans to attract around 820 billion tenge in
investments, which will enable the generation of an additional 3.5 billion kWh
of green energy and the reduction of annual carbon dioxide emissions by at
least two million tonnes.
“The project implementation will
allow to continue the development of the renewable energy sector, to achieve
the adopted target indicators, namely 15 percent by 2030, for the renewable
energy development growth, as well as to reduce annual carbon dioxide
emissions. As you know, European countries are currently working on the
introduction of carbon taxes. Additional capacities generating green energy
will have a positive effect on the competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s goods in the
international market,” said Almassadam Satkaliyev, Kazakh Minister of Energy.
