The launch of
direct flights between Kazakhstan and Mongolia, the increase in the number of
Kazakh schools in the Bayan-Olgii region, and the further strengthening of
bilateral relations were discussed at the fourth Small Kurultai (congress) of
Kazakhs in Mongolia. The Kazakh delegation, headed by President of the
Otandastar Foundation Abzal Saparbekuly, participated in the event. The parties
also discussed inter-parliamentary relations and further prospects for
cooperation between the two states. During a five-day period, the Kurultai
events were held in Ulaanbaatar, Khovd and Bayan-Olgii, coinciding with the
30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
“The main purpose
of our visit is to meet with Kazakhs living in Mongolia and discuss topical
issues related to the development of relations in various fields, including
scientific, cultural and humanitarian domains. Additionally, we held meetings
involving public figures and intellectuals, where we listened to their
proposals and suggestions. We also wanted to see what work has been done to
preserve the spiritual identity, and how active the young people are in
upholding Kazakh traditions,” Saparbekuly said.
The program of the
small kurultai included numerous cultural events, such as the presentation of
the Kazakh writers’ works published in Mongolia, and the opening of monuments
in honor of the Kandas people, who made a great contribution to the development
of the country. Besides, special medals and letters of appreciation were
awarded to intellectuals and artists who contributed significantly to the
preservation of Kazakh culture, traditions, and language.
Mongolia also
hosted national games competitions and festive concerts. The audience welcomed
with special warmth the performance of the Tattimbet Kazakh Folk Instruments
Orchestra from the city of Karagandy.
