Exports of Kazakh products along
the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) increased threefold, as
reported by the relevant ministry. In total, over the first 11 months of this
year, the traffic volume through seaports reached 6.5 million tonnes, which is
10 percent more than in 2022. Experts note that the majority of Kazakh exports
are being transported to European countries. It is noteworthy that Kazakh
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed to increase the transportation
volumes through the Middle Corridor fivefold. To this end, corresponding
roadmaps have been signed with Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey. As part of
their implementation, each country is taking measures to synchronize the
development of transport infrastructure. The Kazakh Ministry of Transport will
focus on the digitization of corridors, the development of the merchant fleet,
ensuring navigation safety, and enhancing terminal capacities and suitable
railway infrastructure near ports. This will facilitate a threefold increase in
cargo handling compared to the current capacity.
“The construction of a container
hub at the port of Aktau will commence next year. An agreement has been signed
with the Lianyungang port for the implementation of the project. The
feasibility study will be ready by April 2024. Additionally, construction of
grain terminals in the Kuryk port has been completed this year. Terminals for
general cargo and green hydrogen transshipment will be built as well. The Kuryk
port terminals will be developed through private investments totaling over $200
million,” said Kazakh Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev.
