The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit
in Tianjin is drawing close attention from the world community. The 25th anniversary meeting of the SCO
Heads of State Council will bring together leaders of more than 20 countries
and representatives of 10 international organizations. China assumed the
SCO presidency from Kazakhstan in July last year, following the Astana summit that hosted the first
meeting in the SCO+ format. Today, the two countries remain strategic partners. Bilateral trade
reached a record $43.8 billion last year, transport corridors and joint projects in green energy and education are
actively developing as well. According to CGTN commentator Han Xuling, the summit
is expected to inject new momentum into regional trade, innovation, and
environmental initiatives.
«There are currently two railway crossings between
China and Kazakhstan, with a third under construction. A logistics base operating in Lianyungang on
China’s east coast provides Kazakhstan with access to the sea and the broad market of the
Asia-Pacific region. The Tianjin summit could become an even larger project for practical
cooperation, raising SCO interaction to a new level. Xi Jinping will put
forward a new initiative for the further development of the SCO, and new plans
may also be adopted in traditional areas such as regional security and economic
cooperation,» Xuling said.
