Digital projects in transport sector presented in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is set to introduce a unified transport document management system to streamline interactions with corridors of the EAEU countries, the European Union, and China. This system will allow transport participants to issue route sheets and waybills from any location worldwide. Additionally, a unified transport standard is planned to be introduced in Turkic countries next year, enabling OTS countries to expedite permit processes, thereby stimulating trade and economic interaction. The relevant ministry provided details on planned and ongoing digital projects in the country’s transport sector. Future plans include managing river vessel traffic through a special navigation system, similar to maritime vessels. In the western part of the country, work is already underway at the Aktau and Kuryk ports to automate production processes and speed up cargo transport via the Middle Corridor. These digital solutions have also contributed to improving the performance of international container transportation, with shipments to China increasing 27 times over the first nine months of this year.

«The volume of container transportation from China to Europe through Kazakhstan has increased by 62 percent, which is a significant figure. Overall, we are witnessing growth across all areas, both in exports and imports, with most of this growth being facilitated by digital platforms. Our exports have increased by 22 percent. By the end of the year, we expect further growth across all areas and types of transport. We are seeing increases in road, rail, and air transport. On average, we expect a 15-20 percent growth in air transport, 30 percent in railway transport, and a 30-40 percent increase in road transport,» noted Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov.

«Monthly, the number of container trains processed has increased from one or two trains in previous years to 40 trains today, with one month seeing about 50 container trains along the Trans-Caspian route. In addition, Uzbek international road carriers are also using the route for the transit of their heavy-duty vehicles,» said Kassym Tlepov, Deputy Chairman of the Railway and Water Transport Committee.
