Astana hosted the presentation of «Dana. The World Citizen,»
a documentary about a Kazakh woman who has impacted the lives of thousands of
women around the world. The film centers on Dana Ziyasheva, a screenwriter and
filmmaker currently based in the U.S. One of her notable works brought the
Costa Rican government’s attention to the issue of early marriages among the
Ngäbe people. Advocacy for women’s rights is a central theme throughout
Ziyasheva’s body of work, including films about Mongolia, Iraq, and North
Korea. The story of this bold and inspiring figure is told by Kazakh journalist
Manshuk Shymyrbay. The project was filmed in Los Angeles with the support from
the New York Film Academy.
«She carried out this work while serving as an advisor on
Central Asia at UNESCO and the UN. Today, Dana Ziyasheva continues her creative
journey as a producer, screenwriter, and podcast creator. Her remarkable
career, extensive experience, and unwavering professionalism make her a true
role model and a source of national pride—an inspiring example of the modern
Kazakh woman,» Shymyrbay said.
Art exhibition «Through the Looking-Glass» opens in Astana
