Construction is underway for the Ulytau region’s first wind power plant, which will have a capacity of 100 megawatts. Situated between the cities of Zhezkazgan and Satpayev, the facility will feature 16 wind turbines. Foundations for the equipment are already being prepared at the designated site. The generated electricity will be directed to a substation and then distributed throughout Kazakhstan’s unified power system. The project involving Kazakh and Chinese investors is planned to be completed by year-end.
«The investment in this renewable energy project amounts to 24.5 billion tenge and is centered around the Nikolskaya 1 station, located near Satpayev city. The energy produced will be distributed through Kazakhstan’s unified power system,» said Almat Saukhimov, Deputy Mayor of Satpayev.
Renewable energy accounts for 6.5% of Kazakhstan’s electricity generation
Plans are in place for another energy facility in the region. Construction of a wind power plant with a capacity of one gigawatt is scheduled to begin on a 20-hectare site next year. In Kazakhstan, the share of renewable energy in electricity generation reached 6.5% in the first six months of 2024. The country currently hosts 148 alternative energy facilities, including 59 wind, 46 solar, 40 hydroelectric, and 3 biogas power plants. Moreover, 50 additional renewable energy projects are planned for launch.
