The implementation of a new major railway project will ensure the smooth export delivery of domestic products and the growth of the country's transit potential. The Karagandy region launched the construction of the second railway tracks on the Dostyk-Moiynty section as part of the ‘Strong Regions - the Driver of the Country's Development’ national project. The railway line is expected to be 836-kilometer long. Dozens of bridges and highway overpasses, hundreds of culverts, as well as energy and communications facilities will be built as part of the project. The completion of the project is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.
“We hope the construction will stimulate acceleration and increase the volume of transit goods traffic to and from China and to Europe. On the other hand, it will allow the modernization of the railway infrastructure. The local content share in the project is 85 percent. It is a very high number for such construction. The personnel will predominantly include Kazakh people,” Kanat Almagambetov, Deputy Chairperson of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy national railway operator, said
Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov also took part in the launch ceremony via teleconference. He noted that over the past five years, the country’s volume of transit container traffic has increased more than fourfold. Over the first 10 months of the current year, the cargo turnover in the nation’s export exceeded 74 billion tonne-kilometers, which is 11 percent more compared to last year.
“The project is implemented on behalf of the President. It will encourage the development of Kazakhstan’s transport infrastructure. The construction process will also increase the capacity of the area by five times and completely solve the problem of export transportation. The cumulative effect of the project execution will further increase budget revenues by 4.1 trillion tenge over 20 years,” Smailov said.
