Construction of combined cycle power plant underway in Kazakhstan

A combined cycle plant is currently under construction in southern Kazakhstan. Around 700 billion tenge in investments have been attracted for the construction of the power plant, which is the largest project in the history of the Turkistan region. The launch of the 1,000 MW facility will help avoid energy shortages not only in the region but also across the country. Once fully operational, it will provide permanent employment for 500 people. Notably, the plant consumes less water per unit of electricity produced and, accordingly, generates more electricity. It is also environmentally friendly, ecologists say.

«At present, concrete work is being carried out on the first and ground floors of the construction site, along with the water purification unit. Earthworks for the industrial water treatment pumps have been completed, and we have started concreting. There are 56 units of equipment and more than 300 people involved,» Sabit Bazarbekov, the lead engineer, said.
