Commission establishes cause of Bek Air plane crash

Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development announced that the investigation into the crash of the Bek Air plane in December 2019 near Almaty was completed. The cause was ‘asymmetrical loss of wing’s lifting efficiency during takeoff’. A commission that carried out the investigation into the Fokker-100 aircraft concluded that the loss of the wing’s lifting efficiency was most likely caused by ground icing. It was the ice that made the aircraft fall on the fuselage after takeoff, roll out of the runway and collide with a two-storey building. The causes of the tragedy were investigated by local and foreign aviation experts.
