It will be easier now to get back cars stolen to other CIS countries. Today members of Mazhilis, the Lower House of Kazakh Parliament, approved a draft agreement protecting the interests of car owners. The decision was caused by sad statistics: more than 40,000 cars have been exported to the CIS countries over the last 15 years, and only 223 vehicles were found. Now, according to the regulation, one month will be given to execute the request. Citizens will need serious reasons if they refuse to provide information. The main thing is that as part of cooperation, the authorities will create a unified database of cars that have crossed the border. All regulations of the document fully comply with the Vienna Convention.
“In addition, the protocol solves the issues of providing information on vehicles affected by accidents, fires or natural disasters. The customs agencies exchange these data. If within a year the specialists do not receive a request to search for a brought car, it can remain in this country. To date, car theft is a problem in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Ratification of this agreement will protect the rights of citizens and facilitate the return of stolen vehicles,” said Yerlan Turgumbayev, Kazakh Interior Minister.
