Since the start of 2024, cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) have surged by 63 percent to 2.5 million tonnes. This upward trend is expected to continue. Infrastructure modernization has commenced to foster the increase in transit through Kazakhstan’s ports of Aktau and Kuryk. Companies from the UAE, France, Germany, and other countries are set to invest in the TITR development. Over four million tonnes of cargo are expected to pass through the Middle Corridor by year-end, with Aktau and Kuryk ports handling twice as much.
«Full-fledged work is currently underway to develop and create infrastructure. Besides, a number of European companies have expressed interest in developing the merchant fleet. They are ready to bring their vessels here for transportation. Today, we are working with a Dutch company to design and build our own ferries and container ships in Kazakhstan. Specific work in this direction is also progressing,» said Kassym Tlepov, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Transport.
In addition to modernizing the ports and renewing the fleet of vessels, the TITR development involves expanding the railway infrastructure. Namely, plans include constructing more than 400 kilometers of second tracks and renovating five stations. All these measures are outlined in the approved plan tomodernize the main railway network until 2030.
