In February, automobile
production in Kazakhstan increased by over 10 percent compared to the same
period last year, approaching 11,000 units worth 146 billion tenge. Since the
beginning of the year, this figure has exceeded 22,000 vehicles of all kinds
and types, totaling nearly 295 billion tenge. Passenger cars constitute the
bulk of the output, with over 20,000 units produced, according to the
Kazakhstan Automobile Union. Also, electric cars have become increasingly
popular in Kazakhstan. Over the past year, more than 7,500 vehicles have been
registered in the country, marking over a ninefold increase, as stated by the
energyprom.kz portal. Experts attribute the surge in electric cars observed from
May to December 2023 to the extension of tariff exemptions for their duty-free
import until the end of 2025.
