School students from Astana had the opportunity to learn
more about ancient Kazakh musical instruments and hear their live sound at an
interactive lecture-concert at the Museum of the First President, featuring
musicians from the State Academic Philharmonic. The event was dedicated to the
100th anniversary of the renowned Kazakh composer and conductor Nurgisa
Tlendiev. Everyone had the chance to try playing dombyra, kobyz, and other
instruments. During the lecture, the schoolchildren were also introduced to the
unique nomadic musical and puppet art of Orteke. The event was held as part of
the cultural and informational project «Ulttyq Qazyna,» aimed at familiarizing
Kazakh citizens with the rich diversity of cultural heritage and promoting the
preservation of national values.
«In the first part of the lecture program, we have prepared
slide materials, focusing on the theoretical aspect. The slides feature
photographs of instruments once used by our zhyrau and abyz in ancient and
medieval times. The aim is to share the history behind these instruments so
that young people can learn that such instruments existed in the past.
Unfortunately, they have been lost and can now only be found in museum
exhibits,» said Kaiyrzhan Konyrshin, Leading Expert of the Excursion Service at
the Museum of the First President of Kazakhstan.
«I was surprised to learn that the dombyra has many
different types, like the sherter and others. It’s important for us to know our
history and understand how things were in the past—especially when it comes to
the dombyra. It holds a significant place in the history of our ancestors,
which is why I believe it is both meaningful and valuable,» said a school
student from Astana.
