National equestrian competitions were held in Astana as part of the Nauryznama Decade. These events reflect the deep connection between the Kazakh people and horses, which have been an integral part of their way of life and culture for centuries. Equestrian games therefore hold a special place in tradition and are now experiencing a renewed surge in popularity. Interest in disciplines such as kyz kuu, tenge ilu, and kokpar is growing, including among young women. Gulbanu Muminkulova has been devoted to national sports for more than four years.
«Our national sport lifts the spirit and fills you with adrenaline. Perhaps the strength and energy of our ancestors still run through our veins. It’s a special feeling that only those in the saddle can truly understand. It’s absolutely exhilarating,» said athlete Gulbanu Muminkulova.

riding engages 48 joints in the human body. It brings a unique inner spirit,
strength, and confidence. It’s no coincidence that Kazakhs have the expression «to hold the reins of
power». Our lives, as nomadic people, have always been
closely connected to the horse. Even natural phenomena are often described
through this connection. Overall, the horse holds great significance for us, » said organizer Adil Tokenov.
