Application submission for Urker Awards 2021 begins

Application submission for the National Urker Awards 2021 has commenced in Kazakhstan. Radio, print and digital journalists working in both national and regional media companies are eligible to participate. The main condition is that the submitted works should have been published or aired from November 1, 2020 to June 1, 2021. There are 11 categories this year. Thus, the judges will have to select the best photograph, report, journalistic investigation, analytical material, educational material, interview, radio project, news portal, newspaper and magazine. There is also a brand new category which will select the best material dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s Independence.

“It can be any material that came out in print media, on an Internet portal or on the radio, which covers special events of Kazakhstan’s independence or the stages of the country’s development since gaining independence. This new category is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Independence. We know that there is a lot of material on this subject now, so we think that this category is going to be highly competitive. It was important for us to hold the awards ceremony so it coincides with the media workers’ day. We wanted to return to this tradition. Applications are already coming in, and there are already a couple of applications for all categories,” said Aizhan Mussinova, Deputy Director General at ‘Media Damytu Qory’ Corporate Fund.

The applicant is entitled to compete in only two categories. The works will be evaluated by an independent jury of respected journalists and international media experts from Azerbaijan and Germany. The winners will receive a statuette and a cash prize of one million tenge (US$2,342). Urker is awarded for the best journalistic achievements. It contributes to the development of the multimedia industry and enhances its prestige. The applications can be submitted until June 15 on the official website of the award ‘urker-awards.kz’.
