Aktau hosts national forum of ethnomediators

Peace begins with dialogue - this belief was shared by participants of the national forum of ethnomediators in Aktau. The event, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (APK), brought together representatives from across the country who shared their successful practices and approaches to preventing various social conflicts. They emphasized the importance of ethnomediation as a modern method for strengthening interethnic harmony. Speakers stressed the need to train skilled professionals in this field. The forum became a key platform of the information and awareness-raising marathon «Yeldesu zhane Tatulasu,» which includes over 100 events - ranging from field trainings and round tables to podcasts and author-led courses.

«A registry of ethnomediators has been established — a three-tier system comprising renowned figures, ethnocultural associations, ethnomediators, professional mediators, as well as representatives of various government agencies. I believe this forum will become a regular event where we can meet, exchange views, and strengthen our knowledge and experience to prevent misunderstandings, disagreements, and conflicts in Kazakhstan,» said Sherzod Pulatov, Chairman of the APK National Mediation Council.

«The goal of mediation is interethnic unity, national harmony, and a call for compromise and reconciliation in the event of conflict. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed the ministry, heads of relevant agencies, and regional governors to provide comprehensive support for the development of ethnomediation and to actively promote its advancement,» noted Zhanbyrbai Matayev, Chairman of the APK Regional Mediation Council.
