72-year-old hiker travels on foot across Kazakhstan

A 72-year-old traveler Sarsenbai Kotyrashov in his tour around Kazakhstan reached the capital. The main city of the country became the 13th city the man has visited during his marathon. Kotyrashov started his journey from his native village of Ulytau in Karagandy region. He now walks 40 km a day. Before setting off, the traveler admits, he thoroughly prepared for a walking marathon. During that time, Kotyrashov covered up to 100 km every day.

“If God gives me strength and health, I would like to walk to Mecca. I also want to walk around the globe to acquaint the whole world with the customs and traditions of my country,” the marathoner said.

The hiker has already changed 10 pairs of shoes. How many more he will use Kotyrashov doesn’t know, but he’s ready to go on. The final destination is the city of Aktau. The traveler plans to get there by November. Having visited 18 cities of Kazakhstan, he intends to achieve three goals - acquaint compatriots with the history of the Ulytau, compile a list of folk artisans and popularize Nauryz holiday.
