The second Central Asia–China summit is taking place in
Astana, bringing together the leaders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz
Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and China. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
opened the summit, highlighting that an unprecedented model of cooperation in
the spirit of good neighborliness, friendship, and mutual support has been
formed in Central Asia. With a market of 80 million people, a combined GDP
nearing $500 billion, and abundant natural resources, the region is steadily
strengthening its position as a key player in international relations, as well
as in trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian cooperation. Comprehensive
cooperation with China plays a vital role in this process. Summit participants
are also set to discuss the expansion of trade and economic ties, along with
the development of the region’s transit and transport potential.
