Mechanical engineering remains one of the key sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy, accounting for around 20% of total manufacturing output. By the end of last year, production in the sector exceeded 5.7 trillion tenge, while investment surpassed 300 billion tenge. Export figures have also increased. Over the past five years, shipments to foreign markets have nearly doubled, reaching more than 3 billion tenge. The main contributions came from the automotive, railway, and electrical engineering industries. Prospects for further development of the sector were discussed today in Astana, where the 13th industry forum opened.
«The main goal of the forum is to outline the next steps for the development of mechanical engineering across Kazakhstan, including advancing robotization, implementing artificial intelligence in industry, promoting production localization, and increasing the share of domestic manufacturers. One of the key priorities going forward will be to boost export potential,» said Makhambet Mendigaliyev, Deputy Executive Director of the Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry.
The products of one of Kazakhstan’s leading mechanical
engineering enterprises are well known abroad, with half of its output exported
directly to foreign markets. There is high demand for rolling mills, belt
conveyors, and crushers for the mining industry, as well as pipes, metal
structures, and drilling pumps for the oil and gas sector. The company plans to
further expand its export markets.
«We cast all types of steel ourselves, including cast iron, which we also process and polish in-house. The plant currently produces next-generation gearboxes. We export our products to six countries, and shipments to Japan began in 2004. Demand from international markets is strong. We have also signed a major contract with an aluminum plant in Tajikistan,» said Yesset Duissenov, General Director of the Almaty Heavy Machine Building Plant.
